Timothy D. Johnson

Managing Director

Since joining Mike Goldner and Van Hawn in 1989 at the firm’s founding, Tim has been closely involved in all areas of the business, including leading or co-leading investments in Marathon Funds I through V. He is a member of the firm's Investment Committee.

Tim began his career at JP Morgan in New York in 1973 after graduating from Denison University and Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. During his 11-year tenure with Morgan, he held a number of banking and corporate finance positions.

A native Wisconsinite, Tim returned to the Midwest in 1985 where he joined First Bank System in Minneapolis as Group Vice President. Responsibilities included setting policy for strategic underwriting, portfolio risk management as a member of the Credit Policy Committee and managing a leverage buyout advisory group.

Tim currently sits on the board of directors for Goldner Hawn portfolio companies Petermann Holding Co., LLC and Westlake Hardware. He is a former member of the Wayzata Public Schools board of directors.
